Nathan Ake captained Netherlands Under 17s to the European title in Slovenia on Wednesday evening, the Dutch emerging victorious after a shootout against Germany.

The Chelsea man, playing in an unfamiliar midfield role during these Championships, got to lift the trophy in Ljubljana following the 5-4 penalties victory, in which he converted his side's second spot kick.

The game had ended 1-1, with Holland only netting an equaliser in injury time after Germany had taken a lead early in the second half.

It represents a fantastic end to a superb season for Ake, who also contributed to Chelsea's FA Youth Cup win despite being absent for last week's second leg in Blackburn.

With a youngster having already picked up a medal, members of the senior squad will now be hoping to do the same in Poland and Ukraine this summer.
