Two Chelsea Academy players were involved on Friday afternoon in England Under-17s' opening match in the annual Algarve Tournament in Portugal.

Midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek (pictured) and schoolboy right-back Ola Aina both started the game but were on the losing side against Germany. England took an early lead but against the run of play were pulled back to 1-1 by half-time. Germany made it 2-1 shortly after the break which was the final score. Aina was substituted on 77 minutes.

It was the first of three games in five days for England who are next in action on Sunday when they face the host nation. They play the Netherlands on Tuesday.

Another Chelsea schoolboy Charlie Colkett was called up for the tournament but withdrew due to injury.

Chelsea involvement this week in internationals at Under-21 level was completed on Thursday night when striker Milan Lalkovic came on at half-time for Slovakia. His side beat Switzerland 1-0 thanks to a second-half goal.
