After captaining both the youth and reserve team aged 18 and being awarded Chelsea Young Player of the Year in 1985, Gareth made his much anticipated debut against Plough Lane in 1987.

Gareth continued to shine in his defensive midfield role and it was his fancy footwork that helped send the Blues to Wembley for the Zenith Data Systems trophy.

He played at the Bridge for 10 years before leaving in the mid-Nineties to join Sunderland and later Swindon Town.

In 2000 Gareth retired and is now the full time assistant manager at Hayes and Yeading Football Club as well as being a full qualified Uefa B Licensed coach. His football expertise has obviously paid off for Hayes and Yeading as they won promotion last season from Blue Square South to the Blue Square Premier.

Multi skilled, he is also a fully qualified plasterer and has an impressive golf handicap of 10.
