INTERNATIONALS: THE 2010/11 SEASON IN NUMBERS

As the players' preparations for the coming campaign begin, Chelsea club statistician Paul Dutton draws a line under the 2010/11 season with a numerical breakdown of the club's stars in action for their countries over the past 12 months.

The records show that Florent Malouda was the one with the most full international appearances having started nine games and come off the bench twice for France, with Petr Cech and Yury Zhirkov the next most active for Czech Republic and Russia respectively.

The most international goals by a player last season was four, a total reached by Chelsea's all-time highest international goalscorer, Didier Drogba, and by Israel's captain Yossi Benayoun. Both included one penalty in those totals. Drogba now sits just one goal away from 50 for Ivory Coast.

Benayoun

June's European Under 21 Championships helped Ryan Bertrand and Daniel Sturridge to some healthy appearance totals at that level and in total, 28 young Chelsea players represented their nations at the age groups between Under 21 and Under 16 level.

It should be noted that the 2010 World Cup, which commenced in June last year, does not count towards these statistics (it was included in last season's round up), nor does the on-going Copa America as that began on July 1 so will register in the forthcoming 2011/12 season's stats.
