CELEBRATION TIME FOR THE MAG'S TOP 100

The new edition of Chelsea magazine, which is in the shops today, celebrates its century with a very special edition, bringing you the top 100 players from the club's history.

You, the fans, voted on your favourite Blues from down the years, and the magazine was inundated with responses from all corners of the globe. The results are now in, and while we wouldn't want to tell you the winner, we can confirm there are interviews inside with both Gianfranco Zola and Didier Drogba, who of course feature highly.

Last time Didier Drogba discussed Chelsea he was saying his goodbyes after firing us to our first Champions League triumph, and he is soaking up the plaudits once more as he takes his place in the pantheon of greats.

'It's unbelievable,' he tells the latest magazine. 'All of these players have done such good things for the club and, when I came here, I could see how much people loved them. To be voted alongside these big names - who are all very, very good players - it is an absolute privilege for me, it really is.

'When I joined the club, I came to play my part. I'm really happy to have been a part of Chelsea history.'

It is 16 years since Zola's love affair with the Stamford Bridge faithful began, and he admits he never could have imagined the relationship would develop to such an extent.

'It is one of the things that surprised me the most,' said the little Italian. 'The attitude of football fans is something I have always appreciated in this country, especially with Chelsea supporters.

'There were some Italians already at Chelsea and all of them spoke very highly about the club. They were enthusiastic about what was happening there, which made it an easy choice for me to sign.'

There is little more that can be said about Zola's impact in his seven years at the club, and it is reassuring it meant as much to him as it did to those who cheered him.

Just like Drogba, Zola highlights Lampard and Terry as key figures, and having aided their development towards the end of his time in London, is delighted to see them high inside the top 10.

'Everything they achieved is down to them,' he insists. 'I could be the most inspirational person in the world, but if you don't have the qualities like they have, and work hard on them, you won't achieve everything they have. And they have definitely achieved a lot - congratulations to both of them for all they have done for Chelsea.'

You can find out the favourite players of a host of celebrity fans throughout the pages of this edition and we also bring you an interview with our guest editor, the one and only Lord Sebastian Coe, a Blue through and through, a former Olympic champion, and the man who led the organisation for London 2012.

A Chelsea columnist for more than a year, Lord Coe steps into the editor's chair this month to discuss his collection of programmes dating back to the early 20th century as well, of course, as the list and those at the top of it.

'I've read Chelsea magazine since it started, there's normally one in my bag and all the back copies are on my shelf at home,' he revealed. He also had praise for three current players to have made the top 10, Frank Lampard, John Terry and Petr Cech.

'Frank is on the borderline of being our greatest-ever scorer and I think John is the best defender we've ever had, which is saying something when you consider some of the competition he has for that," he mused.

'Petr is still arguably the best goalkeeper in the world and, for chunks of his Chelsea career, he was unquestionably so. I think the fans have got the top spots exactly right.

'Some people might not agree with certain individuals, but Chelsea fans know what they like. They want to see style and skill and that's really what they voted for here.'

Elsewhere in Chelsea magazine, Oriol Romeu talks us through his Football Men, the figures who helped carve out the career he has today, and an interview with South African cricketing hero Dale Steyn, a self-confessed Chelsea nut.
