TWO MORE INTERNATIONALS JOIN CHELSEA LADIES
Chelsea Ladies are delighted to announce the signing of two Icelandic internationals ahead of the third FA WSL season.
Edda Gardarsdottir (pictured) and Olina Vidarsdottir bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the squad. They are the latest signings to become part of the Ladies' set up after Eniola Aluko and Katie Holtham joined the squad early in the close season.
Defender Vidarsdottir has played for her country 55 times while Gardarsdottir is a hugely experienced midfielder who has gained 97 caps since 1997. They also represented Iceland at Under 17s level before playing for the senior side.
Chelsea Ladies manager Emma Hayes said: 'Olina is a defender who can play with both feet, she's physically strong, great in the air and works hard. She is a great professional and her experience will help us push on.
'Edda is a fantastic midfielder who is close to playing her 100th game for Iceland. She will help our younger players develop and is a wonderful role model. These players are going to bring a huge amount of knowledge to the squad and we can't wait to start training now.'
Gardarsdottir is relishing the opportunity to play for the Blues and said: 'These are very exciting times ahead in the WSL, and I am very happy to be joining Chelsea Ladies.
'I believe there is a possibility for more improvement for women's football in the world with this English league going from strength to strength. Chelsea is a fantastic club with great tradition and now with added ambition on the women's side, it feels good to be a part of it.'
They were sentiments echoed by Gardarsdottir's international teammate as Vidarsdottir added: 'After talking with Emma for the first time, I was convinced that joining Chelsea was the right move in my football career and the right club to play for in preparation for the EURO final tournament this summer. I can't wait to get to know English style of play and I'm really looking forward to joining a club which I've supported from a young age.'
The third FA WSL season kicks off next spring but the latest signings will join the Blues for pre-season training in February.
