SCHURRLE: PERFECT AFTERNOON
Andre Schurrle was understandably thrilled with his and his team's performance yesterday afternoon. The German scored his first goal in Chelsea blue, netting from close range after good work from Fernando Torres, and ended the game on the winning side following the Spaniard's late winner. He had words of his praise for his team-mate, but first explained what the day meant to him.
'It's so special for me to finally score my first goal for Chelsea, and also at home in a big game. I will never forget this. It was a perfect afternoon for me and for the team because Fernando scored at the end and we won. That was the most important thing.
'It was one of the hardest matches I've ever played in. It was very physical out there. The tempo and the intensity were unbelievably high, everyone was giving 100%.
'Fernando was very good,' Schurrle said of the matchwinner. 'He was strong, he was fast, and I think we all saw that he is one of the best strikers in the world. I see him every day in training and he works really hard, so he deserved his goal.'
With another game tomorrow, the German expects his manager to ring the changes against Arsenal. However, he believes that our strength of depth will ensure another strong performance against a side that contains a couple of his international team-mates.
'It's no surprise for me that Mesut (Ozil) is playing so well. I'll be happy to see him and (Per) Mertesacker because we have a good team spirit in the national team and we are all good friends, but tomorrow, for 90 minutes, there are no friends.
'I think the manager will change many positions but we have high quality in every member of the squad and there will be no problem for us,' Schurrle explained.
'I think Arsenal will change their players, too, and it's going to be a good match. I am very happy to be a part of our squad, and with a team like Chelsea you want to win every competition you are in, so we'll do everything tomorrow to win the match.'
