Chelsea Football Club and the Disaster Emergency Committee (DEC) are working together to raise funds for those affected by Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. From today, fans across the UK wanting to donate £5 to the appeal can text FOOTIE to 70000*.

The typhoon has affected more than 13 million people. Four million have been forced from their homes and around a million houses have either been destroyed or damaged.
The DEC has already raised more than £65million, yet more is needed as the full impact of Typhoon Haiyan continues to unfold, with medical equipment, clean water, food and shelter major concerns.

DEC chief executive Saleh Saeed said: 'We have been completely overwhelmed by the kindness and compassion from the UK public, the response has been incredible.

'However, with 13 million people affected and four million people becoming displaced from their homes, the need for urgent support is vital.

'Through DEC agencies we are getting clean water, medication, sanitation and temporary shelter materials immediately to people. We must also start to look at the future as sadly we know it will take months and years to rebuild people's lives.'

As a club we have offered to help with a selection of prizes being donated to the DEC, who are launching a seven-day online auction via eBay. The auction will go live on Monday 2 December.

This Sunday for our game against Southampton, the club will also be highlighting the DEC's campaign on the big screens and LEDs at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea and Brazil midfielder Willian spoke of the importance of supporting the appeal, he said: 'Everyone here at Chelsea has been deeply touched by the tragic events in the Philippines. Our thoughts are with each and every person affected by this terrible disaster.

'It's important that as a club we support this campaign and help the people affected get the help they need at such an important time.'
