KIDNEY CHARITY TOPS ONLINE POLL
Kidney Research UK has won the second of our online charity polls, and will be holding bucket collections at Stamford Bridge for the game against Manchester United on Sunday 19 January.
There are three matchdays available for bucket collections, so the charities have been broken down into different categories: medical charities, children and young people's charities and community charities.
Thousands of you took part in the second poll, the medical charities category, via the official Chelsea website with Kidney Research UK the eventual winners.
Founded in 1961 Kidney Research UK is the largest funder dedicated to research into the causes and prevention of kidney disease, with the money raised going directly into research to find better treatments and ultimately a cure to help over three million people in the UK at risk of chronic kidney disease.
Sandra Currie, Chief Executive of Kidney Research UK, said: 'We are thrilled to have won the poll for a match day collection at Stamford Bridge on 19 January.
'There were many deserving charities to choose from, so I would like to thank everyone that voted for us. It's going to be a big game between Chelsea FC and Manchester United so we hope supporters will give generously to help fund more lifesaving research across the UK.
'Kidney disease is a silent killer; over 55,000 people in the UK are being treated for kidney failure which is even greater than the number of fans who will fill the stadium on match day.
'As our work relies almost wholly on donations from the general public it is opportunities like this that are more essential than ever.'
The third category to go forward for the fans' vote through the online poll is community charities. The winner of this poll will have the opportunity to hold bucket collections at the Tottenham Hotspur game on 8 March at Stamford Bridge.
The first matchday poll was won by Reach, The Association for Children with Upper Limb Deficiency, who staged their bucket collections during our 2-1 win over Crystal Palace in December.
