THE CHELSEA WEEK HOME AND AWAY
The official Chelsea website takes a look at the impact being made by some of our players out on loan, as well as looking forward to the week ahead...
Having extended his stay at Walsall until the end of the season, Milan Lalkovic was on target as they drew 1-1 away at Tranmere Rovers.
Lalkovic broke the deadlock for the visitors in the 19th minute with an impressive strike after advancing from deep, but his opener was cancelled out by a Cole Stockton effort 12 minutes from time.
There was a debut for Patrick Bamford in the Championship, meanwhile, but it proved a night to forget for the Derby side he has joined who were beaten 4-1 at Leicester City.
Bamford, who moved to Pride Park last week following a memorable loan at MK Dons in the first half of the season, was introduced as a second-half substitute by manager Steve McClaren, but he was unable to prevent the Rams from slipping to defeat.
In Spain, Thibaut Courtois kept a second consecutive clean sheet as Atletico Madrid and Barcelona, the top two in La Liga, played out a goalless draw in the Spanish capital.
With the Dutch Eredivisie still in the midst of a winter break, Bertrand Traore was given his first taste of action for Vitesse during a couple of matches in their warm weather training camp in Abu Dhabi.
In the first of those two games, against German side Wolfsburg, Traore showed his quality, supplying a wonderful pass from which fellow Chelsea loanee Lucas Piazon scored.
The week ahead
Once again, there is no midweek fixture for the Chelsea first team, ensuring Jose Mourinho and his squad have a full week to prepare for next Sunday's Barclays Premier League game at home to Manchester United.
The Portuguese will address the media at Cobham to preview the game on Friday.
Adi Viveash's Under-18s continue their FA Youth Cup campaign with a home game against Sheffield Wednesday on Wednesday at Aldershot Town FC, kick-off 7pm. The game will also be shown live on Chelsea TV.
They will be back in league action next Saturday when we entertain Tottenham Hotspur at Cobham, kick-off 11am.
The Under-21s have no game this week, but Dermot Drummy's side play Wolverhampton Wanderers away next Monday (20 January) at Telford FC, kick-off 7pm.
