Patrick van Aanholt
In his fifth year at Chelsea having arrived from PSV Eindhoven, the tall, fast and technically accomplished defender, who was born on 29 August 1990 in s-Hertogenbosch, immediately established himself in the reserves where he was the third highest appearance maker in 2007/08 with 14+1 games, mostly at left-back, demonstrating an ability to rocket in the odd long-range goal.
Patrick joined Coventry City on loan for the first half of 2009/10, making 20 appearances and impressing with his consistency. Championship leaders Newcastle United then took him for a seven-game spell in early 2010 as he helped their promotion chase, before returning to Stamford Bridge and being rewarded with a Chelsea debut.
That came as a sub in the 5-0 win at Portsmouth, before featuring again from the bench in the 7-1 league win over Aston Villa.
The 2010/11 campaign saw Patrick's progress continue and he scored a first Chelsea goal against Newcastle in the Carling Cup, before joining Leicester City on loan for the rest of the season in late January. He made 12 appearances for Sven Goran Eriksson's side, scoring once.
He signed a new four-year contract with Chelsea in May 2011, and joined Wigan Athletic on a season-long loan transfer on deadline day in August but that was terminated in January. He made three league appearances and played one Carling Cup game for the Latics but he last featured for their first team on 1 October 2011.
In mid-January 2012 it was agreed for Patrick to return to Holland for the remainder of the season, where he played for Vitesse Arnhem alongside fellow Chelsea loanees Tomas Kalas and Ulises Davila. He made 11 appearances for Vitesse and in July it was announced that 2012/13 would be another season on loan there for both he and Kalas.
His second season with the club was another productive one, with the left-back establishing himself as a regular in the side, starting all but three of the games as they finished fourth in the Dutch top flight.
In July 2013, it was announced Van Aanholt would return to Vitesse on loan for the whole of the 2013/14 campaign.
