LADIES REPORT: LIVERPOOL 4 CHELSEA 0
Chelsea Ladies went out of the Continental Cup with defeat at the hands of Liverpool.
The game started in a frantic fashion; Chelsea had the first two attacks, with Eniola Aluko first shooting straight at Quantrill before Kate Longhurst dragged her shot wide from six yards.
But thereafter Liverpool were dominant. Lucy Bronze fed the ball through to Nicole Rolser on the right, the winger cut inside and shot, hitting the crossbar with the Shannon Lynn beaten.
Amanda Da Costa then chipped a pass into the path of Natasha Dowie who lifted the ball over the advancing Lynn to open the scoring for Liverpool on 11 minutes.
Just three minutes later, Whitney Engen had the vision to hit a diagonal pass into the right side of the Chelsea box into the path of the advancing Lucy Bronze. The full-back picked out Dowie who headed over the keeper to double Liverpool's lead.
What had been a poor start for the Blues took a turn for the worse just before the half-hour mark.
Louise Fors picked out the forward run of Rolser and the quick winger took the ball in her stride before sliding it past Lynn to make it 3-0.
Emma Hayes's side had a mountain to climb after the break, but Liverpool continued to create chances, with Rolser's strike going over, Da Costa shooting wide and Dowie just failing to get on the end of a teasing Fara Williams cross.
With eight minutes left to play, Lynn charged out of her area, but Billson was too quick for her and was brought down, with the referee showing the stopper a yellow card. Fara Williams took the resulting free kick and beat Lynn at the near post, giving Liverpool an emphatic 4-0 win.
