CHELSEA LADIES PLAYER PROGRESSES IN STUDENT GAMES

Chelsea Ladies left-back Naomi Cole has helped Great Britain into the semi-finals of the 2013 World University Games.

Having represented Team GBR in a 2-0 win over Brazil and a 2-1 defeat to Japan in the group stage, Cole played in a highly impressive 8-0 win over Ireland in the quarter-finals.

GBR finished in second spot in Group C after they outclassed Brazil in the opening game, before suffering an unlucky loss against the Japanese. Needing to beat Estonia to qualify from the group, they produced a stirring second-half performance to win 5-1, setting up the quarter-final with Ireland.

The semi-final rematch with Brazil is on Saturday.

The World University Games is the largest multi-sport event after the Olympics, with several thousand student athletes taking part. Great Britain's participation is organised by BUCS (British Universities & Colleges Sports) who sent around 175 people to Kazan in Russia, including our very own Cole who is from the University of Chichester.
