CHELSEA FOUNDATION COACH TO BE OLYMPIC TORCHBEARER

Chelsea Football Club and Samsung Electronics are delighted to announce Chelsea Foundation coach Yusuf Jimacale as a Torchbearer nominee for this year's Olympic Torch Relay.

Yusuf was presented to the crowd on the Stamford Bridge pitch at half-time in the Barclays Premier League game against Manchester United. He was joined by Emma Wilkinson, head of communications and community affairs at Chelsea FC; Hoon Kang, head of Samsung London 2012 Olympic Office, Samsung Electronics HQ; and Andrew Garrihy, corporate marketing director, Samsung Electronics UK.

Yusuf first came to Chelsea FC through the Kickz project four years ago and immediately demonstrated notable leadership skills, making a positive impact on his peers while gaining relevant coaching qualifications.

Yusuf, aged 20 now works for the Chelsea Foundation delivering daily coaching sessions at local primary schools, as well as three evening sessions per week. He was a key member of the recent World Mental Health Day event at Stamford Bridge and additionally made a huge contribution to an Afro-Caribbean Leukaemia Trust event.

'I am so excited to be nominated by Samsung and become one of its Torchbearers for London 2012,' Yusuf said.

'It will be an honour to join the thousands of other Torchbearers all chosen for their unique stories which have helped and inspired others within their communities.

'I will continue to work with the Chelsea Foundation supporting our community programmes and feel proud of the successes we achieve while helping others reach their goals.'

Ron Gourlay, chief executive at Chelsea FC said: 'Our Foundation programmes are designed to encourage people like Yusuf and to support their future ambitions.

'We recommended Yusuf to Samsung because of his unquestionable commitment and dedication to helping others through sports. Obviously we're excited to learn that Samsung accepted Yusuf as a Torchbearer nominee.'

Chelsea supporter Seb Coe, chair of LOCOG, the organising committee of the 2012 Olympic Games, commented: 'It's great to see Samsung and Chelsea FC taking the vision of the Olympic Games to supporters of other sports. Yusuf is a very deserving nomination and his achievements convey what the Olympic Games are all about; passion, determination and commitment to what you believe in.'

As an Olympic Torch Relay Presenting Partner, Samsung has held a worldwide nomination campaign to select a proportion of the 8,000 Olympic Torchbearers in 2012.
