adidas and Chelsea FC Pitch Up with Free Sporting Facilities for Londoners.

Chelsea Football Club and adidas have transformed four 'Blue Pitches' in West London with the aim of getting more young Londoners taking part in sport. The pitches are free to use to help get young people more active and make a real difference to local communities.

Football, basketball and tennis can all be played on the four all-weather pitches which can be found at four sites close to Stamford Bridge. Click on the map for more details on the locations.

Frank Lampard officially opened the first site in Battersea, he said: 'The Blue Pitches are state of the art facilities where youngsters, regardless of age or ability, can meet up and play for free. I know that all the Blue Pitches will be a really welcome and needed addition to the local communities.'

All four pitches are, of course, blue in colour, inspired by the 'Reflex' blue in our Chelsea kit and are made from a high specification astro turf - a replica of a natural grass surface. The pitches will be used as key locations for Chelsea's 'Football In The Community' programme, which provides sporting opportunities for local young people while tackling issues such as crime, gangs and anti-social behaviour. Local schools will also have the opportunity to benefit from after school coaching sessions and training days.

Not only will local coaches be encouraged to attend the sites to spot talent and encourage them to join local clubs and sporting organisations. It's a really great chance for our own community coaches to work with local kids and who knows, spot some future stars for the boys in blue!

Blue Pitches in Asia

During the 2011 'Here to Play, Here to Stay' tour of Asia, Chelsea Football Club introduced Blue Pitches in Malaysia, Thailand and Hong Kong.

The Blue Pitches have a modern artificial playing surface and host hundreds of local children each week.

Chief executive Ron Gourlay said at the time: 'The club has extended our relationship with the Asian Football Confederation, allowing us to give further support to the development of grass roots football in the region.

'Blue Pitches is the base of our strategy for Asia-Pacific and the wider global picture over the next five to 10 years.

'The model will allow us to engage with fans, bring Chelsea to the area and to give something back to help you develop the game.'

The Blue Pitches have helped Chelsea interact with the local fanbase, which has grown hugely in recent years.

'Since 2004 we have seen the club amass a fan base in Asia alone of over 100 million,' added Gourlay.

Blue Pitches provide an all-year-long, all-weather facility for local players who may not have had a proper surface to play on before.

'Young guys when they are growing up, they need somewhere to play if they want to be footballers and improve, learn new skills and try them out,' said Ashley Cole after visiting the Blue Pitch in Malaysia, which boasts one hard surface and one Astroturf, both indoor, and an outside playing area.

The Blue Pitches in Asia are all similar to the pitches introduced to London. Football, basketball and tennis can all be played on the four all-weather pitches.

Chelsea also run Soccer Schools in Hong Kong, Malaysia, Philippines, Korea, Bangkok and Sabah.
