The Chelsea FC Foundation has been hosting exercise classes for our Alive and Kicking senior fans group in partnership with local charity Open Age.

Financed by the Big Lottery Fund, the programme sees senior fans take part in specially designed workouts every Thursday inside the Hub at Stamford Bridge.

Participants remain seated for the exercises, provided by teacher Shiralee Wakeham, which have been formulated to reduce strain on joints while providing a thorough workout for the body.

'I really enjoy all the banter and holding the classes at a football club is a great way of getting older men involved,' says Shiralee.

The whole group agree that the sessions are beneficial and enjoyable. David Thompson, aged 74, says that the classes have really improved his bad back while Peter Josiah, 82, added: 'The programme is very well thought out and we really enjoy the music - Frank Sinatra, Tom Jones - all the greats.'
