The Cystic Fibrosis Trust has won the opportunity to hold a bucket collection at Stamford Bridge following our ground-breaking Online Charity Poll.
More than 12,000 fans took part in the Medical Charity Poll via Chelseafc.com and Facebook, and the Cystic Fibrosis Trust gained 3,852 votes to make them the winners. Spinal Research UK received 2,449 votes to secure second while the Alzheimer's Society came third with 1,828 votes.
The charity now has the opportunity to fundraise around Stamford Bridge on Saturday 22 September when we host Stoke City in the Barclays Premier League.
Ed Owen, Chief Executive of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, said: 'We are thrilled to be chosen as the charity to be supported with collections during the Chelsea home game against Stoke City on 22 September.
'We hope that the funds received will provide a great contribution to the work of the CF Trust in funding medical research and championing better care for people with cystic fibrosis.
'The CF Trust has had a long association with Chelsea Football Club. The club has hosted the CF Trust's Nicky's Whisper Challenge Trophy Football Match with the CF Trust XI against UK Parliamentary Football Team over the past nine years. We'd like to thank Chelsea fans and the cystic fibrosis community for all their support.'
The Medical Charity Poll, which comprised of 16 charities, is the first of five polls to take place this season. The remaining categories are Military Charities, Children and Young People's Charities, Community and Support Charities and Cancer Charities.
Chairman and Chelsea FC Foundation Trustee Bruce Buck said: 'We have been delighted with the response from fans. More than 12,000 supporters voted over the course of a week in this poll, which just goes to show how important charitable causes are to Chelsea supporters.
'We are very proud of the initiative's outcome and there are still four more polls to come this season.'
Since it was established in 1964, the Cystic Fibrosis Trust has funded medical research and supported excellence in clinical care, as well as providing practical support and advice to people with cystic fibrosis and their families.
It is the only UK-wide charity focusing solely on CF. The Cystic Fibrosis Trust believes that everybody living with CF deserves the best possible quality of life with access to the best quality care and with a real hope for a better future. After winning the Medical Charity Poll, once the Cystic Fibrosis Trust have held their bucket collections on Saturday 22 September, there will be further online polls to decide which charities in four other categories.
These polls will not only give fans the chance to decide who receives their money, but also allow for each charity to spread their message through Chelseafc.com.
