Nicolas Anelka has not recovered from his hamstring injury so Daniel Sturridge will lead the attack.

The 20-year-old plays as the lone striker in a Christmas tree shape, with Joe Cole and Florent Malouda supporting.

Hilario is in goal with Petr Cech rested and there is a place for Yury Zhirkov in midfield. John Terry and Frank Lampard both start and there is youth on the bench in shape of Nemanja Matic, Gael Kakuta and Fabio Borini.

Watford make one change with striker Heidar Helguson returning to QPR after a loan. Scott Severin comes in. Former Blue Jon Harley is on the bench.

Chelsea are expected to line up in the following 4-3-2-1 formation:
