Reserve team midfielder Jacob Mellis has gone on loan to Barnsley.

The 20-year-old, who last week signed a new contract that will keep him at Chelsea until 2013, will remain at Oakwell until 8 May.

Barnsley, managed by former Manchester United player Mark Robins, are currently 13th in the Championship.

Mellis made his first-team debut as a last-minute substitute against MSK Zilina in November. He was on loan at Southampton in the first half of last season.
