David Luiz has given an update on his recovery from a hamstring injury, speaking optimistically about his chances of lining up in the Champions League Final.

It is a month ago now since the Brazilian central defender was carried off in the FA Cup semi-final win over Tottenham and he watched from the sidelines as the team overcame Barcelona in the second leg in Spain and captured silverware at Wembley.

Speaking after Sunday's win over Blackburn, Roberto Di Matteo reported that David Luiz and Gary Cahill will be pushed in training this week but it is likely to be a late decision on their availability for the match against Bayern Munich.

David Luiz told Chelsea TV after watching this weekend's game: 'It [the injury] is improving now and I am feeling better day by day. On the pitch I am more comfortable and I want to play football. My place is on the pitch, not outside it.

'I wanted to play against Barcelona and I wanted to play the FA Cup Final, but now I have one more game more special than all the others and for this I think and I hope that on Saturday I play against Munich.'

His injury didn't stop the 25-year-old from taking a typically enthusiastic part in the celebrations after the team beat Liverpool at Wembley, nor the lap of appreciation after Sunday's final home game.

'I love these fans. This season started not well and now it is a good moment for the team, and the support of the fans was always together with the team, in the good moment and the bad moment. This is important for the confidence of me and my team mates, and now I think I have one more opportunity for celebration.'
