EURO 2012: CARRY ON CECH
Petr Cech became the first Chelsea player guaranteed participation in the knockout stage of the European Championships as Czech Republic beat Poland 1-0.
A draw would not have been enough for Cech and his compatriots and they scored the goal needed midway through the second-half, Petr Jiracek finding the net. Cech was tested infrequently by the Polish attack but did make one good save low down in the first half and it needed a goal-line clearance by one of his colleagues in stoppage time at the end of the game to preserve the lead.
The Czechs finish top of the Group A by two points. Host nation Poland go out, as do Russia after a surprise 1-0 defeat by Greece who finish second in the group.
