CECH: BUSINESS AS USUAL IN THE BRONX

Petr Cech admitted it felt good to be back in goal as he completed his first hour of pre-season on Sunday evening.

The Czech goalkeeper was beaten by Nene's first-half strike but impressed with a fine early save from Ezequiel Lavezzi, quickly slipping into his usual mode of first-rate performance.

'It feels good to be back. The season is full of opportunities and exciting moments so it is great to be involved again,' Cech said. 'I played an hour and felt good. For the first game of the season I expected it to be much worse but I felt comfortable and had a very good game with my distribution, no mistakes, so I am happy with that.'

On the Lavezzi save, he added: 'It is always good when you start with winning a one v one duel. It's a positive, but it would have been a better night without conceding. Still, it was a good start.

'We didn't play well in the first half but in the second we got into the game, improved and got the equaliser, so I think 1-1 is a fair result.'

A huge sports fan, Cech met New York Yankees pitcher Mariano Rivera on Saturday, and was delighted to be a part of history on Sunday night.

'Yankee Stadium was great, it was brilliant to hear so much noise there,' said the 29-year-old. 'It was nice to come over to New York and have a stadium full of our supporters, everybody seemed happy and this place is iconic.

'Yankees are the best club in baseball, so it's amazing to play here and be the first team to do so along with Paris St-Germain.'
