Once again this season each club competing submits a two-part squad list. List A contains no more than 25 players during the season. Eight of those 25 places are reserved exclusively for 'locally trained players' and no club may have more than four 'association-trained players' among the eight.

A 'locally trained player' is either a 'club-trained player' or an 'association-trained player' and according to the competition regulations, a 'club-trained player' is a player who, between the age of 15 and 21 and irrespective of his nationality and age, has been with the club for a period, continuous or not, of three entire seasons.

An 'association-trained player' is a player who fulfils the same requirements as a 'club-trained player' but at other clubs under the same governing body, which generally means clubs in the same country.

A maximum of three new players can be added to the list for the knockout stages should Chelsea make it that far in the competition, provided the names are added before the end of January and the above requirements are respected, so other players may need to be removed. One of the new players could have played in the Europa League for another club.

Each club is entitled to register an unlimited number of players on the B List during the season as long as the list is submitted the day before the match in question.

A player may be registered on the B list if he is born on or after 1 January 1991 and has been eligible to play for the club for any uninterrupted period of two years since his 15th birthday. Players aged 16 may be registered on the B List if they have been registered with the club for the previous two years without interruption.
