Josh McEachran and Nathaniel Chalobah were both involved in an England Under-21 victory on Tuesday night although they were not on the pitch together.

The game was a friendly against Northern Ireland at Blackpool. McEachran started at this level for the first time this season and continued his bright form for his loan club Middlesbrough until the 65th minute. He was substituted due to what was described as a jarred ankle.

Chalobah, currently on-loan at Watford, came on with quarter of an hour left for what was the 17-year-old's debut for the Under-21s. He played in midfield. The final score was 2-0, a sixth win in a row for Stuart Pearce's side, all achieved without conceding a goal.

Spain, the reigning European Under-21 champions, achieved a notable 3-1 friendly victory away against Italy. Oriol Romeu played the first 83 minutes of the match.

Both England and Spain have qualified for the European Under-21 Championships in June. The draw for the tournament takes place on 28 November.
