DAVID LUIZ: FUTURE OUTLOOK
The England international was dismissed with 90 minutes of the game played and Chelsea 1-0 down to Corinthians. The red card was for a reaction to a challenge by midfielder Emerson, about which Cahill spoke after the game.
David Luiz was asked to give his view on the incident too, but was better placed to talk about his colleague in general.
'I didn't see the moment so I cannot speak about that,' explained the Brazilian. 'I can just speak about Gary who is a fantastic player. Gary can look to the future because he is an amazing person above everything.
'I am sad because I said before the game this is one competition I really wanted to win,' he added, 'but I lost a final and now I am going to look for another title in my life.'
David Luiz collected a Silver Ball award for being named the second best player in the tournament, but it was a minor consolation for losing to the side he supported as a child, especially as he felt the Blues caused the South American champions plenty of problems.
'Chelsea tried to win all the game and all the players worked hard to score. We created a lot of opportunities to score but we were unlucky because we couldn't score one goal,' he said.
'This was the game, two teams worked hard to win the title but only one team could score a goal.'
The match was Chelsea's 11th cup final in the last eight years, and one of the keys to being a consistently successful club is knowing how to bounce back from the disappointment of losing big matches.
'I am disappointed but I need to look to the future because I have many games ahead,' said David Luiz.
'I play for a big club and I need to win and I need to win big titles, so Chelsea must now try to win the Premier League.'
