David Luiz highlights Chelsea's passing game on Saturday as a crucial factor in becoming the first team for 11 months to beat Stoke on their own turf in the league.

The Brazilian enjoyed a fine display in the 4-0 win having returned from midfield to defence with Gary Cahill unavailable due to the birth of his son. It was his first visit to the Britannia Stadium having missed the opening game of last season due to injury.

'It was a great result, a great performance and everybody knows it is difficult to get three points at Stoke,' David Luiz reflects on the weekend win. 'But it was an intelligent game from us and this is the result.

'All the game we tried to play football on the floor. It is hard to play against Stoke City away because they play direct balls and they are a strong team in the air, so the key was when you have the ball you try to play one- or two-touch to move the big guys, and then you can take the space.

'Rafa did a great job, he showed us what we needed to do to win this game. It was unlucky for Jonathan Walters and it was good luck for us that he scored two own-goals to give us the advantage in the game, but both teams had chances to score.'

David Luiz hopes opportunities to find the net will now come readily at Stamford Bridge with back-to-back home league games next on the agenda. The squad is working hard to overcome recent difficulties winning in our own stadium.

'Sometimes you play a team with strong tactics and some teams do a great job,' he acknowledges.

'In the game against Swansea there were two mistakes from Iva [Branislav Ivanovic] and it was not true of the game. Everybody saw Chelsea create a lot of opportunities to score in the first 25 minutes and if you score one goal with these opportunities you can win 2-0 or 3-0.

'When the opposition stays back and you don't have a lot of space to play football, creating is difficult, so we need to work every day on this and find space to score goals.

'We just needed to stay working hard and show our best when we have the opportunities.'
