John Mikel Obi says Nigeria must not get carried away with thoughts of winning the African Cup of Nations prior to Wednesday's semi-final against Mali.

The Super Eagles were surprise winners against Ivory Coast in Sunday's quarter-final, and now become favourites against Mali as they bid to reach the final. Mikel, who is joined in the Nigeria squad by Chelsea team-mates Victor Moses and Kenneth Omeruo, says they must be fully focused on today's semi, which kicks off at 3pm UK time.

'We cannot afford to look beyond the semi-finals now because that would be disrespectful to Mali,' said the 25-year-old. 'We just have to keep doing what we are doing and keep our feet on the ground.

'We have to keep training hard and believing in ourselves and hopefully we will qualify for the final.'
