Josh McEachran and Nathaniel Chalobah started for England Under-21s as their European Championship campaign came to an end in disappointing fashion against Israel.

Having already lost their opening two group games, against Italy and Norway, Stuart Pearce's side had no chance of qualifying, but their tournament misery was compounded when they slipped to a 1-0 defeat against the hosts.

The Chelsea duo started alongside each other as the two deep-lying midfielders, but both were withdrawn in the second half.

McEachran was replaced by Nathan Redmond in the 70th minute, while Chalobah exited seven minutes later, with Marvin Sordell entering the action.

Ofir Kriaf scored the only goal of the game 10 minutes from time with a low drive from outside the penalty area.

There was a far better result for Milan Lalkovic as Slovakia Under-21s began their qualification campaign for the next European Championships in 2015. They won 7-1 away in Luxembourg, although the Chelsea striker was not among the goals.
