June may be a quieter month than most at a Premier League football club but Stamford Bridge is far from dark, as recognised by an award presented to the club recognising us as a top conference venue.

The stadium's ability to host events on the approximately 330 days of a year when there is not a match taking place results in a wide spectrum of activity, with flexibility and a range of facilities available.

Stamford Bridge was named as Best Medium Conference Venue (300 to 1000 delegates) at the Conference Venue & Supplier Awards 2013, the most highly recognised in the events industry.

On average there is a minimum of 10 to 15 events a week taking place somewhere on the site and it is very rare when there is nothing happening. They can be high volume gatherings such as the PHEX plumbing and heating exhibition which has been hosted here for 17 years, with several thousand plumbers attending, promoting or viewing equipment and even going on stadium tours. They can be blue chip corporations elaborately decking out the Great Hall in the West Stand and presenting to their customers there.

When the famous annual rugby sevens tournament took place at Twickenham, all the top rugby teams stayed in the hotel at the Bridge, using the Centenary Hall in the Shed End stand for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and the health club swimming pool and gym for recuperation.

'The award recognises the hard work we have done with regards to the refurbishment of the Great Hall,' reports Simon Hunter, head of venue and brand.

'We have repainted it, the kitchens have been redone and we have made it a multipurpose facility, so it is used on matchdays when thousands of fans go in there when they sit in the West Lower, and then on non-matchdays it is used for a large banqueting or conference space.

'We have the Leaders in Football conference there every autumn which is one of our very prestigious events and uses many of the function suites in the West Stand, the hotel and the on-site restaurant.

'We host everything from small board meetings in the Millennium Suites up to 2000 people in the Great Hall. The whole venue is very versatile because we have the hotel, the function space, the health club, restaurants and car parking, the Under the Bridge music venue, the museum and tours which all lend themselves to the concept of the venue here at Stamford Bridge.'
