LE SAUX: THE RIGHT PHILOSOPHY

Posted on: Wed 10 Jul 2013

Former Chelsea man Graeme Le Saux has seen first-hand the good work the club does in communities, and believes our work in Asia is something to be proud of.

Le Saux, who represented Chelsea in two spells, is now employed as an ambassador and has travelled with the team to both Asia and America, helping on Foundation-run community projects and coaching clinics, as well as meeting and speaking to fans and spending time with the squad.

'It's one thing having the infrastructure but another having the coaching to go with it. The response to the Chelsea coaches whenever I have been there has been fantastic,' explained the ex-England international.

'Taking the first team to these countries was always going to be very popular, but when people see what we do in the communities to support that shows we have a very good philosophy on the programmes we run as well.

'It's the positive side of what a football club can do in terms of connecting with its community whether it's at home or overseas,' Le Saux continued. 'That consistency Chelsea has delivered when we've toured to Asia means we can stay involved - we have year-round programmes where our Foundation coaches are always there, engaging with local coaches and giving them experience they can use. That's an important part of it and puts something back in after the first team squad has left. By continuing to give something back, people can see there is a genuine relationship between the club and the people there.'

This summer is the first time Chelsea will travel for an Asian tour with Jose Mourinho at the helm. Le Saux is looking forward to the reception the Portuguese will receive from our huge support.

'When the speculation was flying around I was asked if I thought he would be the next manager. I didn't know, but the one thing I did say was can you imagine the atmosphere for his first game? The support he will get, and the team will get, will be absolutely phenomenal,' said the 44-year-old. '. It's going to be amazing, those first few games, and our Asian fans are in for a treat.'
