Chelsea Ladies can today (Sunday) confirm the signing of defender Sophie Fogarty from QPR.

The 20-year-old left-sided player joins the squad ahead of next weekend's resumption of the FA WSL, against Doncaster Rovers Belles.

Fogarty had been a regular for QPR over the last couple of seasons where she excelled.

Manager Emma Hayes said: 'Sophie is a talented young player who possesses great pace and athleticism. I think she has all the attributes to be a success in the FA WSL.

'She has done well during the break and provides us with more competition for places on the left-hand side with Claire Rafferty out injured. Sophie will bring great balance to the squad.'

In the East Asian Cup, South Korea shocked reigning Women's World Cup champions Japan, defeating them 2-1 in the last match on Sunday and helping neighbours North Korea claim their first title at the regional event.

On Saturday, North Korea defeated China 1-0 to end the tournament on seven points so Japan entered the final showdown with four points, needing a victory to beat North Korea on goal difference.

South Korea had lost their previous two matches but went 2-0 up before Chelsea Ladies recent signing, Yuki Ogimi, cut the deficit. Although Japan then hit the post, South Korea hung on for the win.
