INTERNATIONALS: MIKEL PLAYS FRIENDLY IN FULHAM
John Mikel Obi completed the full 90 minutes for Nigeria as they drew against Italy at Craven Cottage on Monday night.
Fresh from qualifying for the World Cup at the weekend with a play-off victory over Ethiopia, Victor Moses also played 76 minutes of the friendly against another Brazil-bound side. Kenneth Omeruo remained on the bench.
Former Man United striker Giuseppe Rossi put the Italians in the lead early in the game having been supplied by Mario Balotelli, but Nigeria equalised and then went ahead within the space of four minutes as half-time approached.
A Mikel pass was crossed by Shola Ameobi for Toronto's Bright Dike to head home, before Ameobi hit the second. The lead lasted just two minutes into the second half when another striker based in the north-east of England, Emanuele Giaccherini, found the net.
Italy, who brought Andrea Pirlo on in the second half, came closest to a winner when former West Ham player Alessandro Diamanti hit the bar with a free-kick.
Elsewhere on Mondau, Nathan Ake played the full 90 minutes for Netherlands Under-21s as they also drew.
Having last week taken a point from a European Championship qualifier against Slovakia, this latest match for the young Dutch side was a friendly away against France in Toulouse. They came back from a goal down at half-time with the game ending 1-1.
Chelsea youth team striker Chike Kandi scored as Wales Under-19s recorded a significant win. A 6-0 victory over Moldova in their final game in a four-team tournament, coupled with hosts Georgia beating Netherlands Under-19s, meant Wales progress to the elite qualification round for the next European Championship finals.
Kandi came on with 81 minutes played and the score 5-0 and added the final goal eight minutes later. He had remained on the bench the first two games - a 5-1 defeat by Georgia followed by a 0-0 draw against the Dutch.
