THE CHELSEA WEEK HOME AND AWAY
For the first time in 2014, the official Chelsea website assesses the recent impact made by some of our loan players and looks at the week ahead…
Patrick Bamford ended his loan spell at MK Dons by securing Karl Robinson's side an FA Cup third-round replay against Wigan Athletic.
In a six-goal thriller at the DW Stadium, Bamford made it 3-3 when he pounced on a loose ball inside the penalty area and fired home late in the game.
From today [Monday], the young striker has joined Derby County on loan for the remainder of the season following a hugely impressive spell with MK Dons.
In Spain, Marko Marin made his return from injury in Seville's 3-0 win against Getafe.
The winger, who has been sidelined with a hamstring problem, was introduced as a 73rd-minute substitute in what was a comfortable win for the home side.
Elsewhere in La Liga, Thibaut Courtois kept a clean sheet as Atletico Madrid maintained their pursuit of leaders Barcelona with a 1-0 win at Malaga.
Only goal difference separates the top two currently, with third-placed Real Madrid eight points adrift.
Oriol Romeu played the full 90 minutes for Valencia as they beat Levante 2-0 at the Mestalla Stadium in Juan Antonio Pizzi's first game in charge since replacing Miroslav Djukic over Christmas.
Ray Wilkins, who represented the Blues both as a player and coach, has been appointed as assistant head coach at Fulham.
Wilkins, 57, has been brought in to work alongside Rene Meulensteen at Craven Cottage, where he worked as manager previously, guiding them to the old Second Division play-offs in 1997/98.
