Throughout the season former player Clive Walker provides radio and TV commentary on Chelsea's games. Here he selects five aspects from the convincing home win over Newcastle that caught his eye…

Knowing the Arsenal result earlier on the day, this was an important win and it was a team performance, with the highlight Eden Hazard. Chelsea made a bit of a statement with this result.

The other players are understanding Hazard and Hazard is understanding other players and he has improved immensely under Jose Mourinho. There are times when we feel we are a better team, we are moving the ball quicker than the opposition but we still need a spark, and at the moment Hazard is giving us that. As the season wears on, more teams might defend against us like West Ham last month, and we will need someone who does something brilliant.

Jose Mourinho wasn't entirely satisfied with the first-half performance and I think that is because there were a couple of half-chances Newcastle had where better sides in front of goal may have scored. He was concerned about picking up runners coming from deep like Moussa Sissoko whose touch wasn't the best with his chance and he gave Petr Cech the chance to save.

That one concern apart, once the first goal goes in you can't see anyone coming back at us at the moment because we are generally defending superbly. Newcastle, with players missing, were quite blunt up front, but it was a good sign we could still keep a clean sheet without John Terry who has been magnificent this season.

The way we get the ball into the attacking three midfield players very quickly on the counter attack, and the link-up play between those three and Samuel Eto'o, has been something special. It was also working with Fernando Torres before he got injured. It must be a nightmare for opposition defenders and it is great to watch. We are top of the league and in training these guys must be dying to play the next game.
