Better than ever

After a painfully long four months, the Chelsea Ladies are back in competitive action this weekend - and I don’t think there’s ever been a more exciting time to be following the team.

Despite the break, the club have been doing anything but relaxing, bringing in five new signings - some of whom bring a level of class and experience that the FA Women’s Super League has never seen before.

Maren Mjelde is Norway captain, and will offer a great calmness both on and off the ball, whether she plays in defence or the centre of midfield. Swiss international Ramona Bachmann has over 75 caps for her country despite being just 26 years old - but perhaps the most intriguing of all is the arrival of Crystal Dunn. Not only is it incredibly rare for Americans to venture out of their home country for club football, but to do it as they’re approaching their peak is almost unheard of.

The combination of these signings sent a message loud and clear to the rest of the world - Chelsea Ladies are the real deal.

We have also been lucky enough to not lose any of the core members of last season’s team, making for an incredibly deep pool of players - something which has not always been said of Chelsea. From the goalkeeper through to the strikeforce, there are very tough choices for Emma Hayes to be making when she comes to write the teamsheet this Sunday.

The quality, depth, and pure winning mentality of this squad is more than it has ever been. Whoever starts for the Blues this weekend, and in the weeks that follow, one thing is certain; we’re going to be better than ever.
