Scouting report: Liverpool
Scouting report Sat 25 Nov 2017
Ahead of the weekend clash at Anfield, we've taken a closer look at our opponents and picked out which players to keep an eye out for...
Jurgen Klopp. The German has been in charge at Anfield since 2015, after arriving from Borussia Dortmund with whom he led to two Bundesliga titles. Klopp began his managerial career with Mainz in his homeland, the club that he had served for 11 years as a player. Signed a long-term contract with the Reds to keep him on Merseyside until 2022 last year and led Liverpool into the Champions League this term.
Philipe Coutinho. The Brazilian was highly coveted by Barcelona in the summer but the Reds managed to hold onto their talisman and he has continued his fine form of last season into this campaign, since recovering from injury. The 25 year-old has netted five goals in the Premier League and Champions League so far this term and has linked up well with countryman Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane in the attacking third.
The Reds head into this game unbeaten in five in all competitions, although did allow a three-goal lead slip against Sevilla in the Champions League as they drew with the Spanish side. Their last three outings in the Premier League have seen Jurgen Klopp’s side net 10 goals; following home victories over Huddersfield and Southampton, either side of a 4-1 away win at West Ham.
One to watch
Sadio Mane. The former Southampton man has been a huge hit on Merseyside and has netted three goals in just seven Premier League appearances this season. Blessed with blistering pace and the strength to hold off defenders, Mane is a real threat on the counter for Liverpool. Has returned to the side recently following a spell on the sidelines through injury.
Worn both badges
Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian international arrived at Anfield this summer from Italian side Roma, where he had spent the past couple of seasons. Has made an instant impact at Liverpool and is the club’s top scorer with 13 goals in all competitions. The winger spent two years with us at Stamford Bridge after joining from FC Basel but spent the majority of his time with us out on loan, taking in spells with Italian sides, Fiorentina and Roma.
