Matic: Really happy

Nemanja Matic scored his first goal for the club in last night’s 3-1 friendly win against Vitesse Arnhem, and the Serbian is delighted with the manner in which our pre-season campaign is progressing.

The Blues made it two wins in the space of four days at the Gelredome, cruising into a 3-0 lead before the home side scored a late consolation.

Matic netted the last of our goals on the night to cap an impressive individual display, converting from an intelligent Diego Costa pass.

‘It’s always nice to score, it was my first goal in a Chelsea shirt and I’m really happy about that,’ he tells the club's official website.

‘Diego gave me a great ball and luckily for me there was nobody in the goal so it was an easy finish.

‘I just try to give my best and help the team, it doesn’t matter about individual performances, all that matters is that Chelsea keep winning matches.’

Mohamed Salah had given us the lead after just three minutes, before Cesc Fabregas extended our advantage with a stunning free-kick, and Matic believes we are improving with every match.

‘We just tried to give our best and do what the manager asked of us before the game, which I think we did,’ he explains.

‘It was a good test for us tonight, we played well but hopefully now as pre-season moves on the team will get better with every game.’

The final game of our two-week European training camp takes place on Sunday when we face Werder Bremen in Germany.

‘It’s been perfect,’ says the midfielder. ‘The training sessions have really benefited us as players and we’ve had some tough matches so we are really pleased with how it’s gone.’
