Soccer School kids enjoy Bridge night
News Tue 12 Aug 2014
The friendly with Real Sociedad proved a night to remember for 20 youngsters from our Chelsea Soccer Schools as they formed a guard of honour for the players prior to kick off.
The youngsters, aged 8-12, waved flags as the players including new signings Diego Costa, Cesc Fabregas and Filipe Luis were presented to the sold-out crowd ahead of our first home friendly since 2006.
Following their moment in the spotlight the youngsters, who attended one of our Soccer Schools at Battersea Park this summer then enjoyed the game from the stands, as Diego Costa scored twice on his home debut to give us a 2-0 victory.
Chelsea Foundation senior London development officer Gareth Davies said: ‘It was a fantastic opportunity for the youngsters selected, all of whom thoroughly deserved the chance.
‘They were selected because they worked hard, listened well and behaved impeccably during their time with us at our Battersea Soccer School.
‘To be a foot away from players you idolise and to walk out in front of a sell-out is a once in a lifetime opportunity and it is great we were able to give some of our Soccer School participants this opportunity.’
Operating across Essex, Sussex, Kent, Hampshire, Wiltshire, Surrey, Berkshire, Middlesex and London, our Soccer Schools are a fantastic introduction to the game, our club and our unique coaching philosophies.
A wide range of ages are welcome, with the sessions providing an introduction to the game for four to five-year-olds before the regular soccer schools take over.
A typical day at a Chelsea Soccer School is divided evenly into training sessions to develop skills and small-sided games and mini-tournaments to aid team work.
The Chelsea Foundation's dedicated coaches all hold valid DBS, FA Coaching, Safeguarding Children and First Aid certificates to ensure the highest levels of both coaching and safety.
All soccer schools are also dedicated to promoting the Chelsea Foundation's values of fair play, respect and discipline as well as encouraging team play and developing social skills.
