Zico drops by

Brazilian legend Zico was a visitor to Cobham on Monday as he caught up with compatriot and fellow free-kick specialist Willian.

Zico, one of the finest players ever to represent the Seleςao, is in England covering the Champions League for Brazilian TV, and took the opportunity to visit our training ground and catch up with a player who has excelled as much as anyone during the current campaign.

‘It’s a pleasure to be here and to see the wonderful facilities you have,’ said the 62-year-old. ‘We are here in London for Arsenal-Barcelona and we are interviewing the Brazilian players that we find wherever we go. Today, we spoke to Willian, who was lovely. Thank you to Chelsea for opening the doors to us.

Willian is having an amazing season and is getting better all the time. It’s great for the Brazilian people to see our players do well and enjoying success abroad and, of course, it also benefits the national team.’

While noting that Oscar is also ‘doing well’ and tipping Kenedy to ‘do very well in the future’, Zico also spoke about new arrival Pato, who he hopes can show his best form during his stay in south-west London.

‘It’s a fantastic opportunity for him. You could even call it a golden opportunity,’ said Zico, who scored 48 times in 71 Brazil appearances over a 10-year international career. ‘He’s a player who has had ups and downs but he is a top-quality player and I think he will settle at Chelsea and do very well, which will also be very good for the national team.

‘When Pato broke through, he was considered the jewel of Brazilian football. He moved to Milan and was doing very well but then injuries came along and unfortunately he really suffered with them. Now he has another chance to prove his quality at Chelsea and get back to his best.’
