Ladies pre-season: New signings score

Ramona Bachmann marked her first Chelsea Ladies start with a brace and there was also a first Blues goal for Erin Cuthbert (pictured) to make it three wins out of four in pre-season.

For the third game running we took on Champions League opposition. LSK Kvinner, who we beat 3-0 today, hit the headlines in this season’s competition by defeating 2015 finalists Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of their tie in the last 32 before eventually bowing out.

They had no answer to the attacking brilliance of Emma Hayes’s side, however, and all three goals came in a devastating five-minute spell ahead of the half-hour mark.

Bachmann, our close-season signing from Wolfsburg, opened the scoring with a tidy finish following good combination play between Beth England, Eni Aluko and Cuthbert.

Cuthbert followed that up by applying the finishing touch from close range after Aluko had crossed for her to volley in.

The young Scot was involved once again as we scored a third goal in the 28th minute. She teed up Bachmann to slot the ball home in clinical fashion.

The second half was a scrappy affair with few chances of note, although another couple of opportunities fell Cuthbert’s way, and it was a satisfactory outing for the Blues as we prepare for our season opener against Doncaster Rovers Belles at Wheatsheaf Park on Sunday 19 March.

The penultimate fixture of our pre-season schedule takes place on Thursday at 4pm when we travel to the Academy Stadium for a match against Manchester City behind closed doors.
