Hazard: We know our job

Following his inspirational performance in Saturday’s win down in Dorset, Eden Hazard considered the game and our contest with nearest challengers Tottenham.

The Belgian equalled his best Premier League tally with his 14th goal of the season, Chelsea’s second in our 3-1 win over Bournemouth, and it was a vital success in the wake of Spurs taking three points earlier in the day.

‘We knew the result of Tottenham so if we wanted to stay ahead by the same points at the front of the league, we had to win and we did well,’ Hazard said. ‘We created a couple of chances, we scored three good goals so we deserved to win.

‘The first goal was a little bit lucky but we have to have some luck if we want to be champions and the second goal was good, N’Golo gave me a fantastic pass, and the free-kick of Marcos Alonso was fantastic. The only problem was we still conceded one goal, it is the only small problem, but now we have eight days to prepare the game against Man United.’

Hazard was fully aware that the chasing pack were hopeful for more dropped Chelsea points in our first away game since the home defeat against Palace and three points taken at the Bridge against Man City.

‘We are in a good positon,’ he pointed out. ‘They are waiting for us to lose points but if we do the job we will be champions in the end. We have to be ready because in England you never know, you can lose points against every team but we are professional, we know what to do if we want to be champion.

‘When we see Tottenham, everything is not done. It is one step closer but we have seven games left to play and we have to be ready for everything.’

There is added spice in the title race for Hazard, Thibaut Courtois and Michy Batshuayi in that several of their Belgian international team-mates are at Spurs.

‘That is why we want to win the trophy because if we go to the national team they will speak too much!’ he smiled. ‘So we need the trophy for Chelsea.’
