Coaching rewards in Russia

Coaches from the Chelsea Foundation visited Russia earlier this month to deliver a series of coaching clinics for a select group of youngsters.

The week-long trip to Moscow was organised in association with principal club partner Yokohama.

In total five Foundation coaches made the trip to Moscow for the ‘Yokohama Chelsea Camp of Champions’ clinic.

More than 80 boys and girls throughout Russia took part in a futsal tournament process. The winners were rewarded with a trip to the Dynamo Moscow training venue where the ‘Camp of Champions’ took place.

This is the second time Chelsea FC Foundation have delivered the programme in Russia and the coaches worked with boys and girls for two training sessions and workshops spread over two days.

There was also a surprise visit during the camp from former Chelsea player Alexey Smertin. Smertin took part in a masterclass with the players before sharing some stories from his time with the Blues.

The coaches in Moscow were led by international head coach Russell Banyard. He said: ‘The desire and energy by the players was good to see and the players thoroughly enjoyed their time working with the coaches for the two sessions.

‘Their team work rate and cohesion got them here and we’re here to give the players an insight into the club.’
