The key phrase in the Chelsea Ladies camp during this week’s pre-season camp in Austria is ‘hard work’ but that hasn’t stopped the team making the most of their stunning mountain surroundings.
The team arrived in the village of Obertraun, Upper Austria, on Tuesday evening for the week-long trip and the hard work began the following morning with an early pitch session followed by another in the afternoon. That was ahead of Thursday’s prestige friendly against German champions Wolfsburg.
The stunning surroundings include the Dachstein Mountains and after being put through their paces again on Friday morning, the players and staff ascended to the top of Mount Krippenstein where they stepped out on to the 5 Fingers viewing platform.
The evening’s entertainment included a fiercely-contested table tennis tournament with Hannah Blundell the eventual champion.
However, the real stars of the evening were the new Chelsea media team, which included Erin Cuthbert, Becky Spencer and Gilly Flaherty.
The trip has also included regular trips for an unconventional ice bath in Lake Hallstatt or one of its tributaries.
The focus returned fully to the pitch on Saturday as Emma Hayes prepared her team for their second high-profile friendly against Bundesliga runners-up Bayern Munich in Germany today (Sunday).
