The Data Day: Chelsea v Qarabag
news Wed 13 Sep 2017
We take a detailed look at the figures from last night’s big win…
We had 16 attempts to Qarabag’s seven, with half of our efforts on target. Five of theirs were from outside the box, compared to 12 of ours from inside it.
Four chances stemmed from set-pieces with the remainder created in open play.
We had a 54.9 per cent share of possession and completed 530 of the 614 passes we attempted, equating to an 86 per cent success rate.
Andreas Christensen was our top passer, successful with 89 of the 91 passes he made. Cesc Fabregas was our next player in that regard with 68 passes, and he and Tiemoue Bakayoko completed a game-high two key passes each.
Willian ranked highest in terms of successful take-ons with seven, at least three more than anyone else on the pitch.
As well as scoring his first Champions League goal, Azpilicueta also won all three of the tackles he attempted, the most of anyone in blue. In terms of interceptions, Cahill and Fabregas each recorded three.
The result matched our best ever result in the Champions League, a 6-0 win over Maribor in the 2014/15 group stage. It is also the first time we have scored six goals in a game under Antonio Conte.
