Club ambassador Paulo Ferreira attended a press conference in Bangkok today to announce a new initiative in which coaches from the club will educate local coaches across Thailand.
The ‘Carabao Chelsea Coach the Coaches’ programme will enable 360 coaches from Thailand to learn from five Chelsea Foundation coaches who will be sent out to the area in order to pass on their knowledge and expertise.
Today’s press conference was held at the head office of Carabao, one of our principal partners, in Bangkok, with the Premier League trophy on show for those in attendance.
Ferreira, who joined Chelsea fans in Bangkok last night to watch a live screening of our game against Manchester United, discussed the benefits of the initiative.
‘Since I retired, I have had the opportunity to continue working with Chelsea and to gain an insight into the coaching methods, which have worked so well at all levels of our club,’ said our former defender.
‘The techniques of coaching football players have developed so much from when I was a youngster and football coaches today have to be knowledgeable on so many different things, both on and off the pitch.
‘The programme will aim to develop the skills of all participants and, in doing so, help to improve the standard of grassroots football across Thailand.
‘During my visits here, I have witnessed and enjoyed the tremendous passion and enthusiasm that the Thai people have for football,’ he added. ‘It is wonderful to see that and I hope that what we are looking to do with this initiative proves successful in raising the level of the game in this country.’
In addition to the ‘Carabao-Chelsea: Coach the Coaches’ programme, the Carabao Football Programme also consists of the ‘Carabao U-Futsal Cup’, ‘Carabao e-Sports’ and ‘Carabao Grassroots Football’.
The ‘Carabao-Chelsea: Coach the Coaches’ project will be held at the Raj Pracha Sport Resort, Pakchong, Nakhon Ratchasima from 22 November to 4 December 2017. After the training, all participants will receive a prestigious Chelsea FC certificate.
Later in the day, local supporters were given the opportunity to meet Ferreira and have their photo taken with the Premier League trophy at the Asian Sports Industry Awards, an event which took place at the Centara Grand and was attended by government officials and sports representatives from across the region.
