Positive work highlighted at Asian awards

The Asian Sports Industry awards took place in Bangkok today where Paulo Ferreira, our club ambassador, spoke about the positive impact the club has made in the region over the course of the last few years.

Ferreira was the main Chelsea representative at the event, which was held at the Centara Grand Convention Centre, with the Premier League trophy on show for the guests in attendance.

During the ceremony, Ferreira was invited onto the stage to discuss the trip itself, as well as the various programmes run by the club throughout Asia and, in particular, our International Development Centre in Bangkok, which has played host to a number of events this past weekend.

Our former defender highlighted the positive work being carried out by the club in Asia since 2011, when we visited Bangkok, Hong Kong and Malaysia as part of the Here to Play, Here to Stay tour. In the time that has followed, the level of engagement with local supporters has increased significantly and we have been able to implement a world-class coaching system throughout the region.

Having won the Best Youth Sports Academy award last year, our IDC was nominated for the Best Youth Sports Development Programme prize this time around. Such has been the success of the IDC, now in its third year of operation in Bangkok, we have recently opened a new centre in Singapore, where we visited in July.

Those guests attending the event were handed the opportunity to have their photo taken with Ferreira and the trophy at the reception.

The awards ceremony brought an end to a hugely successful visit to Bangkok, which included football development sessions, coaching seminars and the Chelsea Bangkok Cup, a tournament made up of teams put together by official club partners.

You will be able to read more about the trip, which has now moved on to Tokyo, on this website over the coming days.
