Reaction: Pleasing performance

Gary Cahill and Eden Hazard felt we deserved more than just a point from last night’s game against Atletico Madrid, and the duo believe we have more than enough quality to cause problems for whichever team we are paired with in the knockout stages of the Champions League.
The Blues finished second in Group C after coming from behind to earn a point against Diego Simeone’s side at Stamford Bridge, with Stefan Savic’s own-goal cancelling out Saul Niguez’s opener for the visitors.
Cahill was struggling to understand how we didn’t manage to secure the victory which would have ensured we finished top of the group as he reflected on the game.
‘I felt in the second half we more than deserved the win and we had some fantastic chances,’ said the Chelsea captain.
‘We’re pleased with the performance and I’m asking myself how have we not won that in the end? Nevertheless, to come from behind and draw 1-1 is okay but like I said we should have won.
‘Overall the performance was very good. It was two great teams, both going forward to try and win the game. I thought their goalkeeper was fantastic, especially when he took one in the face. How he kept that out I don’t know and it was just one of those days which has got them a point.’
‘We had enough chances, but the only problem was that their goalkeeper was on fire,’ he said. ‘We should have scored more goals, won the game and finished first in the group but we drew.
‘It was a good draw though because Atletico Madrid played very well and they are a strong team, so we are happy.’
The draw for the knockout stages of the competition takes place on Monday and Hazard is confident we can overcome any opponent.
‘It’s not a problem, we are Chelsea, a top team,’ he said. ‘We can face anyone. We know PSG and Barcelona are very good but we are Chelsea so we have to be ready for everything.’
