Cuthbert: Can’t wait for kick-off

Erin Cuthbert thinks a Chelsea Ladies win tonight against leaders Manchester City at Kingsmeadow will set the Blues up for the rest of the season.

The two top sides in the WSL1 meet in KT1 at 7pm tonight, with the visitors holding a two-point lead over us with both clubs having played seven matches apiece.

While the league campaign has not even hit its midway point, Cuthbert knows victory over our biggest rival could set the tone for what is to come.

‘It’s a really exciting game, so hopefully we can put on a good show and get the result,’ said the Scottish midfielder.

‘If you asked us before the season started if we’d like to be in this position – beginning of February, unbeaten in the league – we’d have snatched your hand off for it. We’re relishing it, we’re excited and we can’t wait for the game.

‘They’re a very good team with quality players, but I believe in my team and we’ve got quality players as well.

‘There is obviously lots we can improve on from the last time we played Man City, but I think we had the chances to win the game. They had possession, but chances-wise, we edged it.

‘If we win it will put us one point in front of them. The league is still in our hands and it could really push us on for the rest of the season.’
