Hayes: We need our best

Everton might be second from bottom in the WSL1 standings, but Chelsea Ladies manager Emma Hayes is expecting a tough game for her side at Kingsmeadow this Sunday lunchtime.

The Blues welcome the Toffees to KT1 for a 12.30pm kick-off, a game you can also see live via the BBC red button, with our unbeaten top-flight run standing at six matches, five of which have ended in victory.

Our visitors, meanwhile, are at the opposite end of the table in their first season back in WSL1, although they have won two of their last three league fixtures.

However, they have already experienced what it’s like to face this Chelsea side, with the two clubs having met at St George’s Park in pre-season. Though we emerged with a 2-1 victory thanks to goals from Millie Bright and Gilly Flaherty, Hayes was impressed with their opponents.

‘Everton will be a tough game,’ said the manager. ‘It was feisty when we met in pre-season, that’s for sure.

‘Although they’ve struggled to score goals this season, having come up from the second tier, they’re a good, young side and I fully expect them to make it difficult for us.

‘They are also a full-time club, which is something that makes a big difference when it comes to the physical side of the game, so we’ll have to be at our best to get back to winning ways.’
