Our fantastic Futsal trio

The Chelsea Foundation Futsal Programme has recently reached new heights with three of our players attending England U19 Futsal Regional Talent Centre trials.

Ayaaz Raazvi, Harry Saint and Daniel Balogun were chosen by Chelsea staff to attend the trials and represent the Blues at Wycombe Leisure Centre in Buckinghamshire. The trials were held with the UEFA Futsal U19 Championships on the horizon in 2019 and have been introduced to spot potential and emerging talent. Players will be selected onto the Futsal Elite Performance Pathway and eventually for national team squads from U17s up to the full senior squads.

Representing the Blues, Raazvi, Saint and Balogun were put through their paces during the trials, taking part in tactical and technical sessions, as well as undertaking fitness testing.

Chelsea Foundation Futsal club secretary James Phillips said: ‘These three individuals are all fantastic young players and their inclusion in the England Regional Talent Centre is testament to their hard work over the past few months.

‘They provide evidence of the bright future ahead of not just themselves in the world of Futsal, but also the future of Chelsea FC Foundation Futsal Club and the growth of the game nationally.

‘The Futsal Club squad at Chelsea FC Foundation has a high number of players under the age of 20, including a current England Under-19 Futsal national team goalkeeper, and the experience that these boys receive training and playing with more experienced Futsal players from different nationalities and backgrounds can only be of benefit to their futsal development.’

Speaking after the trials, Balogun said ‘There was an extremely high standard of players attending the trials but we all felt we competed well.’

Saint added: ‘Having seen the standard of the players attending, we feel we are up there in terms of quality.’
